As reported in our blog of July 5, 2011, there has been an increasing trend nationwide in eliminating or taxing the use of plastic bags and paper bags in the retail forum. This movement has been in the works for several years originating in Seattle, Washington and has been made into a law in a number of cities around the United States. Retail establishments, municipalities, environmentalists and a number of other advocacy groups are firmly in support of this but has met considerable resistance from the plastic bag industry who has launched petition drives to abolish this proposed law.
