A new law was enacted in New York State, effective 4-1-11, which sets certain requirements for employers when printing their payroll checks. Entitled the Wage Theft Prevention Act, it amends the notice of wage rate requirements and expands the civil and criminal remedies that are available when employers fail to comply with these provisions.
Most notably for our Brand Consultants, New York State now requires that the phone number of the employer be printed on the payroll checks. Cooley’s Brand Consultants will be meeting with their customers who are affected to notify them of the new law and ensure their compliance, to avoid any hefty fines.
